About Matt

Hi, I'm Matt. Thanks for visiting my photo blog. I am a professional photographer living in Lawrence, KS. I enjoy photographing weddings, portraits, live music, the Kansas landscape, and pretty much everything else.

For many years I primarily shot BW film, and processed and printed it in my home darkroom.  I used a wide variety of older, mechanical cameras ranging in format from sub-35mm to 4x5.  Initially I was very reluctant to try digital, but it has completely won me over, and now I shoot with Canon DSLRs, and work in both color and BW.

When I'm not busy with weddings and portraits, you'll find me wandering around downtown Lawrence with my family, shooting my favorite local music, or exploring the back roads, woods, and prairies of Kansas. There are some beautiful and fantastic places out there in an often overlooked landscape. I also enjoy cooking (eating), reading, camping, good coffee, good beer, visiting art galleries, and hunting for morel mushrooms.

You can find my business website and contact information at www.mattneedham.com

I mainly shoot Canon 5D and 5DII DSLRs using a variety of Canon, Tamron, and Sigma lenses.  I recently picked up a Sony NEX-3.  I'm using Photoshop CS 4.

The photo above is titled "Self Portrait With Time Traveling Daughter".  It is a single exposure made through glass.

The title of this blog refers both to the development stage of film processing, and my reaction to some of the mumbo jumbo about photography I find on the internet.  :)

My photographs are part of many private collections and the following public collections:

Alice B. Sabatini Gallery, Topeka & Shawnee County Public Library, Topeka, KS

Picerne Military Housing, Ft. Riley, KS
